Full Cast Revealed for 'Uzumaki' First Episode [Update 7/26]



The official Twitter for Production I.G.'s anime adaptation of Junji Ito's horror manga Uzumaki (Uzumaki: Spiral into Horror) revealed the full cast for the miniseries' first episode on Wednesday. The adaptation will have four episodes and premiere on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block later this year.

Uzumaki will be directed by Hiroshi Nagahama (Aku no Hana, Mushishi), and multi-instrumentalist and composer Colin Stetson (Color Out of Space, Hereditary) is in charge of the score.

The manga was serialized in Big Comic Spirits from 1998 to 1999, eventually compiling into three individual volumes and receiving two omnibus releases from Shogakukan in 2000 and 2010.

It has been published in at least nine foreign languages including English, running in VIZ Media's Pulp magazine from 2001 to 2002. Three individual volumes were released during the same two years and it has since received multiple reprints, most recently in the form of a hardcover omnibus in 2013.

Update July 26
The original teaser for Uzumaki and an interview with director Hiroshi Nagahama were shown with an updated 2021 release during Adult Swim Con on Saturday, July 25. No explanation for the delay was provided.
