Getter Robo Arc' Anime Announced for Summer 2021


Bandai Namco Arts opened an official website for an anime adaptation of Ken Ishikawa and Go Nagai's Getter Robo Arc manga on Monday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured) and the first promotional video. The anime will debut in Summer 2021.

Jun Kawagoe (Shin Getter Robo, Mazinkaizer SKL) is directing the anime at animation studio Bee Media (Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-hen, Mazinkaiser). The promo features the theme song "HEATS 2021" by Hironobu Kageyama, a new version of the second opening theme "HEATS" from the 1998 original video anime Change!! Getter Robo: Sekai Saigo no Hi.

Synopsis
Getter Robo Arc is the fifth Getter Robo series chronologically.

Taking place several years after Getter Robo Go, Earth is now a post-apocalyptic world. Hayato, now an aging scientist, has completed Professor Saotome's masterpiece, Getter Robo Arc. Piloting it are Ryoma's son Takuma, the human-dinosaur Kamui, and the younger brother of Tayel, Baku. Alongside the reformed Dinosaur Empire, they fight the insectoid Andromeda Flow Country attacking from across time and space.

Ishikawa and Nagai launched the first Getter Robo manga in Weekly Shounen Sunday in 1974. The original mecha manga was followed by Getter Robo G, Getter Robo Go, Shin Getter Robo, and Getter Robo Arc.

The first television anime adaptation by Toei Animation aired in 51 episodes in 1974, followed by a 39-episode sequel in 1975. The Getter Robo Go television anime aired in 50 episodes in 1991–1992.

Brain's Base produced the Change!! Getter Robo: Sekai Saigo no Hi (Getter Robo: Armageddon) original video anime (OVA) from 1998 to 1999, the four-episode Shin Getter Robo tai Neo Getter Robo OVA in 2000–2001, and the 13-episode Shin Getter Robo (New Getter Robo) OVA series in 2004.
