
The official website of the 5-toubun no Hanayome (The Quintessential Quintuplets) television anime revealed additional staff, the first key visual (pictured), and a 15-second commercial for the second season, 5-toubun no Hanayome ∬ (The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬), on Wednesday. The new season, originally scheduled for October 2020, will premiere on TBS, Sun TV, and BS11 in January 2021, following the delay due to the effects of COVID-19.

Kaori (Yuyushiki, Miira no Kaikata) is directing the second season at Bibury Animation Studios, replacing Satoshi Kuwahara, who helmed the first season at Tezuka Productions. Keiichirou Oochi (Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Kan, Hinamatsuri) is returning to handle the series composition. The main cast members are reprising their roles.
The anime series adapts Negi Haruba's romantic comedy manga, which he originally published as a one-shot in Weekly Shounen Magazine in January 2017. The manga joined the magazine's regular lineup in August that year and ended on February 19. Kodansha shipped the 14th and final volume on April 17. 5-toubun no Hanayome has a cumulative 13 million copies of its compiled volumes in circulation.
The first season aired in 12 episodes last Winter. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with subtitles, while Funimation streamed an English dub. The latter released the anime on home video on May 19.
