Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru premiered in Fall 2014 as the fourth installment of the Takahiro IV media project. The first half of the second season adapted Takahiro and illustrator BUNBUN's Washio Sumi wa Yuusha de Aru (Washio Sumi is a Hero) prequel light novel, which received limited screenings in theaters between March and July 2017 prior to their television broadcast in Fall that year. The second half (pictured right) served as a direct sequel to the first season.
Touko Kanno (Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate) drew a manga adaptation in Dengeki G's Comic from December 2014 to August 2018. Kadokawa published the fifth and final volume the following month. The franchise inspired several light novels and spin-offs, which ran in the Dengeki G's Magazine.
Crunchyroll simulcast the first season as it aired in Japan. Ponycan USA licensed the anime series and released the first season with an English dub in three home video volumes between April and August in 2015.
