The official website for the anime film Ongaku revealed main cast members and a teaser trailer on Wednesday. The project was launched in 2012 and completed in June of this year after a successful kickstarter campaign. The film will premiere in January 2020.
Musician Shintarou Sakamoto will play the character Kenji. Actresses Ren Komai and Kami Hiraiwa (Tomie: Re-birth live action) will play Aya and Morita, while actors Tomoya Maeno and Tateto Serizawa will star as Oota and Asakura, respectively. Naoto Takenaka (One Piece) will voice Ooba.
The film is based on Hiroyuki Oohashi's self-published 2005 manga of the same name, and was later included in a collection of Oohashi's works, titled Ongaku to Manga, published in 2009. The story revolves around a rock band formed by a trio of punks, none of whom had prior experience with musical instruments. It was animated using rotoscoping and includes over 40,000 hand-drawn frames.
