
Manga author and illustrator Ai Morinaga died in the early morning on August 2 due to undisclosed health problems. Kodansha's monthly Bessatsu Friend announced the news yesterday with an obituary on their website expressing condolences and celebrating Morinaga's life (excerpt below):
We would like to express our deep appreciation to Morinaga-sensei for creating many wonderful works, and sincerely hope that her work will continue to be read for a long time.

Morinaga's professional career began in 1993, and took off in 1996 when her manga Yamada Tarou Monogatari began serialization in monthly Asuka magazine. Her most popular works include Boku to Kanojo no XXX and Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club, published in Comic Avarus and Bessatsu Friend, respectively. Her latest full-length work, Kirara no Hoshi, was also published in Bessatsu Friend and concluded in February 2015.
