During the "Hibike! Euphonium 5-kaime da yo! Uji de Omatsuri Festival" event on Saturday, it was announced that Kyoto Animation's Hibike! Euphonium has a new anime project in the works. It will center on Kumiko Oumae and her third and final year at high school. To commemorate the announcement, character designer Shoko Ikeda drew an illustration (pictured).
The project will be based on Ayano Takeda's two-volume novel Hibike! Euphonium: Kitauji Suisougaku-bu, Ketsui no Saishuu Gakushou. The second and final novel is scheduled to ship on June 22.
Takeda's novels received two TV anime adaptations and four movies. The first 13-episode TV anime aired in Spring 2015 and was followed by a sequel in Fall 2016. Two compilation films, Hibike! Euphonium Movie 1: Kitauji Koukou Suisougaku-bu e Youkoso and Hibike! Euphonium Movie 2: Todoketai Melody, summarized the events of the two TV series and premiered in April 2016 and September 2017, respectively.
A side-story film, Liz to Aoi Tori, premiered in April last year that centers on Mizore Yoroizuka and Nozomi Kasaki. Hibike! Euphonium Movie 3: Chikai no Finale premiered on April 19, and takes place during the students' second year.
Crunchyroll provided a simulcast for both seasons on its platform. Pony Canyon USA shipped the first season as three collector's editions between June 2016 and August 2016, and released volume one of the second season in August 2018. Eleven Arts licensed Liz to Aoi Tori and shipped it on Blu-ray and DVD in March.
