New Anime of 'Sekaiichi Hatsukoi' Manga in Production

The wraparound band on the 24th volume of Shungiku Nakamura's Junjou Romantica manga revealed a new anime for its spin-off Sekaiichi Hatsukoi: Onodera Ritsu no Baai on Friday. The new anime, titled Sekaiichi Hatsukoi: Propose-hen, celebrates the fifth anniversary of Emerald, the magazine where the manga currently runs.

Synopsis
When Ritsu Onodera changes jobs, looking for a fresh start, he's not exactly thrilled when his new boss turns out to be his old flame. Ritsu's determined to leave all that in the past—but how can he when his boss is just as determined that they have a future?

Tired of accusations that family connections got him his current position, Ritsu Onodera quits his job as an editor at his father's company and transfers to Marukawa Publishing. Once there, he is assigned to the shojo manga editorial department—something he has no interest in and no experience with! Having sworn he'd never fall in love again, the last thing he wants to do is work on love stories. To make matters worse, it turns out that his overbearing boss, Masamune Takano, is actually his first love from high school! (Source: SuBLime)

Nakamura originally serialized the boys' love manga in The Ruby magazine in 2006, which transferred to Asuka Ciel in 2009. Kadokawa launched Emerald in late 2014, the real-life version of the magazine from Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, where both the manga and the main series Junjou Romantica subsequently switched. The 14th compiled volume went on sale on May 1.

Studio Deen produced two television anime seasons in Spring and Fall 2011. The fifth and sixth manga volumes bundled two original video anime episodes in March and September 2011, respectively. The Sekaiichi Hatsukoi: Yokozawa Takafumi no Baai anime film opened in Japan in March 2014.

VIZ Media licensed the manga under its SuBLime imprint in 2014 and published the 12th volume on April 9. Funimation licensed the anime series in 2016 and shipped both seasons and the original video episodes on a DVD volume in March 2017.
